How to Embroider a Flower
A quick how-to on embroidering different flowers!
Embroidering flowers is a lot easier than you might think! Here are some tips for creating beautiful embroidered flowers as a beginner to embroidery!
What Type of Flower Do You Want to Embroider?
First up, you need to know what type of flower you want to create to determine what stitch you need to use.
For Beginner Embroidery, flowers mainly fall into two categories. Roses… and everything else! Obviously as your skills grow, so will your stitch options. But right now, let’s keep it simple!
Woven Wheel Rose Stitch - Embroider A Rose
Roses are easiest done with a Woven Wheel Rose Stitch. This a simple weaving technique that creates adorable fluffy roses in any size. You can see a quick tutorial on how I embroider roses below.
Again, these are quick tips BUT if you’re looking for full, in-depth embroidery tutorials you can join my Beginner Embroidery Course! You’ll learn all about proper materials, basic stitching skills, 11 different embroidery stitch types, and SO much more!
Satin Stitch - Embroider Daisies, Poppies, Tulips etc.
For embroidery beginners, I typically suggest a simple Satin Stitch for most other flower types. As the name implies, Satin Stitch creates a soft satin finish. This stitch involves simply creating rows of stitches going across the design outline to fill the space. Now the technique varies slightly depending on the shape of the petal but the general idea is the same.
Below is a quick video showing how I used satin stitch to embroider this daisy and also a look at how my Stick & Stitch patches work!
Stick & Stitch Patches for Embroidering Flowers
The above video also shows how easy it is to use my Stick & Stitch patches to transfer my floral embroidery designs. Simply peel the backing away, stick onto your item, stitch right through it, wash away the patch and you have an embroidered flower on a piece of clothing, a tote bag, a blanket, etc. Plus my individual patches come with a step by step video tutorial stitching the design right along with you!
Embroidering flowers is a breeze if you have the right materials and the right guidance! Try one of my learn-on-the-go Beginner Design Kits or join the Beginner Embroidery Course for a full education! Happy Stitching!

Personalize your next baby shower gift with hand embroidery!
Our stick & stitch patches are super easy to use and all of our kits come with step by step video tutorials meant for even complete beginners.
Embroidery Stick and Stitch Patches
How do they work? The patches are adhesive. They’re sticky like tape but actually made of the same stuff as school glue! You’ll peel the design right off the backing and stick it to whatever item you want to customize. This will not only transfer the design but the patch itself acts as a stabilizer for the fabric to keep it flat. You’ll stitch right through the patch with the help of the video tutorial. Once you’re done, you just wash the patch away in water leaving just your stitching behind. As long as you follow our tips for securing your thread, the items can still be machine washed if intended to be!
Embroidery Stick and Stitch Patches are an easy way to personalize something plain!
Our Stick & Stitch Patch Kits are Beginner Friendly and come with a step by step video tutorial to not only teach you how the patches themselves work but also a stitch along so you know exactly what to do! Give it a go and personalize your next baby gift!

A Different Way to Preserve Your Wedding Bouquet
Capturing a wedding bouquet in thread creates the perfect, unique keepsake. A statement work of art that becomes a conversation piece in your home and a treasured heirloom.
Capturing a wedding bouquet in thread creates the perfect, unique keepsake. A statement work of art that becomes a conversation piece in your home and a treasured heirloom.
A Detailed Wedding Bouquet Preservation
These pieces take roughly 40 hours to complete with incredible detail. Using a photo from the special day, the bouquet is re-created flower for flower, leaf for leaf. Color matching and choice of stitch type blend together to replicate not just the look but the overall feel and texture of the bouquet.
Keep Your Wedding Bouquet Forever
You’ll have the option to choose the orientation of the design either side profile or bird’s eye view based on the shape and structure of the original bouquet. You’ll also have your choice of fabrics: a true white cotton, a linen blend in off white, or a linen blend in natural.
Embroidery Art Fit for Framing
Using modern techniques, these bouquets take on volume making you want to reach out and grab the bouquet right from the frame. Speaking of frames, only the best quality framing options are used in your choice of stain and shape to match your bouquet and your home’s style perfectly. Your bouquet will be delivered ready to be displayed.
Because of their time intensity, I only take on 3-4 bouquets a year. Commission slots open in February/March of each year. Join the Mailing List to be notified first. You can see more details and pricing information HERE.
I’m truly honored to create these treasured pieces for you. Thank you for trusting me with something so special. Happy Stitching!

Valentine’s Crafts for Kids & Adults
3 Valentine’s Day Projects for Kids and Adults…
3 Valentine’s Day Embroidery Projects!
Heart Embroidery Design
I first stitched this heart when I was 24 months pregnant with my second kiddo (ok 8 months but to be fair IT FELT LIKE 24!!). I slowly picked away at it between working part time as a physical therapist and caring for my crazy toddler. I thought for sure I would never finish it before his expected arrival on Valentine’s Day but, much to my absolute dismay, my beautiful 10lb baby boy came several days late allowing me to finish this lovely little heart. How thoughtful of him ;)
An Embroidery Kit for Beginners
The heart got such rave reviews that I turned it into a full kit with video tutorial! I named this kit Whitney’s Heart of Roses after my best friend (whose heart may actually be filled with roses!). This gorgeous beginner friendly embroidery kit comes with everything you need to complete the project (except scissors - but I have those available too!). Along with all the supplies, you’ll have unlimited access to the video tutorial taking you through this project step by step! I’ll teach you the bare bones embroidery basics first to get you started and then you’ll stitch this heart design right along with me.
Online Embroidery Course Version
Spice up the traditional heart shape by using an array of colors with the same stitch! This creates a fun rainbow effect. This stitch is called Turkey Work and is one of 11 stitches you can learn step by step in my Online Embroidery Course! This heart is also one of two exclusive patterns included in the Course! The Course contains over 2 hours of embroidery tutorials including info on proper materials and how they work, all the stitching basics, transferring embroidery patterns onto your fabric, 11 different stitches, backing and framing, design tips, and an entire section on stitching on clothing, tote bags, etc. Click HERE to learn more about this amazing Course!
A Kid Friendly Embroidery Project!
If you’re looking for a big-kid friendly project, try a simplified version! Draw or trace a heart onto fabric with a heat erasable or water soluble pen and have your kiddo just use a simple back stitch along the shape. Then erase any remaining visible design marks with heat or water and you’ll have a cutie little heart to hang on the wall! When my oldest was 5, she stitched this simple heart pattern and loved it! Embroidery still requires a sharp needle so parental supervision is always advised. You know your kid best so use your own discretion as to whether or not they can handle a project like this.

Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Stitching!

New Year’s Resolution: A New Hobby!
New Year New Hobby!
…“I’d never have the patience for embroidery” ...You: “Whoa? Did this chick just read my mind through the internet?” No, I just hear this all the time lol Please, let me tell you, I’m an incredibly impatient person and embroidery is PERFECT for me. It FORCES me to slow down. You can only stitch so fast, ya know? While with other art forms I would rush right through them simply because I could. Which brings me to my second most frequent rebuttal: “I’m not crafty”, “I would be horrible at this”, “Mine would never look that good” etc. Listen, I am NOT a crafty person. I swear it! Anyone who knows me personally knows this. Just ask my mom who is continually in absolute shock that I run a “crafting” business lol Because I’m inclined to just rush through any other project, my paintings and drawings and handwriting look like a 3rd graders (although this comparison may be an offense to 3rd graders). If I can rush, I’m going to. But with embroidery, I’m forced to slow down my hands AND my mind…
Try Something New This Year! Learn Embroidery!
I love the new year! While I’m not super into New Year’s resolutions, it does feel like a fresh start and a perfect opportunity to try something new! Why not embroidery?
Breaking the Embroidery Stereotypes
STOP! I know what you’re thinking: Embroidery is just for little grannies in rocking chairs stitching on doilies. But you’re wrong! Think customizing your favorite sweater with a trendy rising sun. Think a chunky bouquet of flowers framed in a sleek modern wooden hoop for a statement gallery wall piece. Think upgrading your daughter’s jean jacket with a penguin! How cute! Embroidery in the modern age is for everyone!
"I’d Never Have the Patience for Embroidery"

Overcoming the “I’m Not Crafty” Mindset
“I’m not crafty”, “I would be horrible at this”, “Mine would never look that good” etc. Listen, I am NOT a crafty person. I swear it! Anyone who knows me personally knows this (just ask my mom who is continually in absolute shock that I run a “crafting” business!). Embroidery: Perfect for a Busy Lifestyle
“Meh, I really don’t have time for a hobby”. Embroidery is literally perfect for a busy lifestyle. I started stitching while working as a physical therapist and raising a wild 2 year old. Because there’s no big set up or tear down, no counting, you can easily pick it up and put it down as you please. Lunch time? Nap time? You’d find me stitching. It’s also incredibly easy to travel with because all you need is your hoop, fabric, needle, threads, and small scissors. I always keep a Work In Progress bag in my purse and car. Long pick up line? I’m stitching. Doctor’s office waiting room? I’m stitching. Plane ride? You get the idea.
Starting Your Embroidery Journey
I think you’re starting to warm up to this idea! Seriously, what’s the worst that could happen anyway? If you’re ready to give it a go, I have 2 ways you can get started…
Option 1: Dive In with a Design Kit
Jump in with one of our full Design Kits where you’ll learn as you go by stitching a complete design right along with me using the step by step video tutorial. These are meant for COMPLETE BEGINNERS. No experience necessary, like never even picked up a needle and thread before beginner friendly! With this approach, you’ll learn just the bare bones basics and only what you need to know to complete that particular design. This is a great test run and you’ll end up with an adorable finished piece.
Option 2: Take a Beginner Embroidery Course
Or take one my Beginner Embroidery Courses! We have a Full Beginner Course option that provides a full foundation of all things embroidery or, if you want something a little lighter, we have the Embroider on Clothing & Everyday Items: Beginner Mini Course. A great option if you’re really just looking for the basics so you can embellish kid’s clothes or tote bags or cloth napkins etc.
However you decide to jump into embroidery, just start!
You’ll thank yourself later! Happy Stitching!
